First National Mezzanine Capital is a new unit headed by McLeese

First National Nebraska, the parent of First National Bank of Omaha, has formed a new company, First National Mezzanine Capital. Its president is David McLeese, formerly with Odin Capital Group, a venture capital firm based in Omaha.

Mezzanine Capital is a financial tool typically used for growth capital beyond a company's senior bank debt or to finance mergers and acquisitions, the bank said.

"First National is growing its capacity to offer innovative financial tools for privately held companies," said Clark Lauritzen, managing director of First National Mergers and Acquisitions. "We are pleased to have the expertise and experience of David McLeese to lead this new company."

Before co-founding Odin in 1999, McLeese was a managing director in the leveraged finance division at Bank of America in Chicago where he financed mergers and acquisitions and corporate recapitalizations.

He began his career at the National Bank of Commerce in Lincoln. A graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University, he received an MBA from the University of Chicago.
